EcoWheels Green Driver Challenge

     



Please join us in our commitment to improve vehicle impact on the environment!

EcoWheels Green Driver Program challenges all drivers to incorporate environmentally-sound driving practices into their daily routines by pledging to take few simple actions between April 22nd (Earth Day) and July 1st.

Choose at least one of the actions below and see how your pledge helps to reduce your vehicle's greenhouse gas emissions.
 

I pledge to do one or more of the following:
Please note: these statistics are based on averages.
► Keep tires inflated
Driving on properly inflated tires save approximately 1 to 2 tanks of gas a year or two gallons (7.6 L) a month - helping to cut costs and emissions.		 Pledge impact:
120 lbs (54.5 kg) of CO2 saved or 9 trees planted
 
 
► Reduce idling time
A 10 minute per day reduction in vehicle idling time can increase fuel economy by 1 mpg (or decrease fuel consumption by 0.27 I/100km). That equates to saving about one gallon (3.8 L) of gas a week,  or approximately two to three tanks of gas per year.
 		 Pledge impact:
240 lbs (109.1 kg) of CO2 saved or 18 trees planted
 
► Plan route in advance
Cutting 20 miles (32.2 km) out of your weekly travel can save approximately $120 a year or $10 a month in gas expenses.		 Pledge impact:

► Accelerate more gradually
One second of high-powered driving can produce nearly the same volume of greenhouse gas emissions as 30 minutes of normal driving. Avoiding quick starts can save up to $40 a month in gas and increase your fuel economy by up to 5mpg or (decrease your fuel consumption by up to 1.36 I/100km).
 		 Pledge impact:
990 lbs (450 kg) of CO2 saved or 76 trees planted
► Leave extra cargo at home
Carrying an extra 100 pounds (45.4 kg) in your vehicle reduces your fuel economy by up two percent.		 Pledge impact:
180 lbs (81.8 kg) of CO2 saved or 9 trees planted
