Fuel Card Program Enhances Driver Delight and Cost Control
One Wheels client had a long-standing policy of reimbursing its drivers for fuel purchases. Drivers would obtain fuel, and have to monitor their spend themselves by collecting receipts, tracking their own mileage and filling out lengthy expense reports each month in order to recoup their fuel spend. In addition, because the client did not have a formal fuel management and reporting system in place, it was unable to precisely determine its overall fuel costs, and did not have valuable data points in place to properly forecast a solid replacement schedule.
Our Account Management team worked with the client to establish a managed fuel program to help improve driver efficiency and satisfaction. We showed the client ways the Wheels Fuel Card program would accurately measure fuel expenses, control costs and enhance capabilities for budget forecasting and replacement scheduling – all while alleviating the driver of the burden on the driver to fill out monthly fuel expense reports.
Almost immediately, driver satisfaction numbers improved drastically thanks to the convenience provided by the Fuel Card Program. In addition, the client saw immediate cost savings results – its fuel expense was reduced by 8% in the first year alone. The customized solution also provided the client with the ability to monitor fuel spend on a daily basis, through a comprehensive reporting suite and exception-based Alerts.
